Well here is another HF I did this last week. It is walnut with a spalted maple collar with a maple finial. It is finished with Antique Oil and buffed. The antique oil was burnished on the lathe for all three coats. Seemed to work pretty well. Going to try it on the next bowl. It is 3 1/2" high and 6 1/2" across.

Bernie,

Once again, that is a beautiful piece of work. The grain flow is perfect and I love the finish!

Truly impressive piece. I.m continusly impressed with the subtle lesson imparted by the forums turners; For instance the "buffed" finish that shows up so often, and adds such a level of elegance. THANKS Bernie. :):)

Bernie, great job, nice contrast of woods. You give me faith that just maybe, I'll be able to master the HF later this year (have to get some tools first).

Well done HF, Bernie! Does that finial screw in? Sort of looks like it does, but it just may be me old eyes playin' with the tenon... However it is, it's a beauty!

Thanks everyone. Yep I tried a different approach told to me by a old timer. He said to burnish the finish while still on the lathe. I am going to try it on some other pieces to see I if I can get the same effect. I didn't realize that thing was 6 1/2' till Stan mentioned it.

That's really a nice one, don't see many darker HF's.

Thanks again. Dan I had this little walnut piece and decided to give it a go. Turned out pretty nice and I kinda like the dark.

Nice HF Bernie. I really like the shape of the collar - that 'dip'/step between the edge and finial. Finish looks great.
