Hello all this is a cherry platter with a curly maple stripe and 2 small strips of walnut between them. It's about 13 1/2".

This is the platter from the "real men of genius" post

sorry about the pics but I did't think my back drop was big enough in my photo tent for this so I didn't pull it out. the pics are an optical illusion and the rim is the same size all the was around. I just added one more I set the tent up but it's still not great

thanks for looking,
Bob

Beautiful piece Bob! Great wood color combination! Love the curly - sure gives the piece a lot of depth! Great finish - very nice work!

Glad you were able to sand out the "small scratches". Looks like it paid off, beautiful platter.

It looks like something I could try with pieces I have in the shop!
Beautiful piece!

Very nice Bob. I sometimes think we have too high expectations of our thread pictures. Unless you are using them to enter some juried show,or are trying to show some bit of detail, your pix look fine to me. :)

Very nice Bob, Would you mind giving a brief description of how you glued up the blank for this? What thickness wood did you use? Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks Alan

Alan,
it was quite simple, it is all 4/4 stock and the thin strips of walnut were just a rip cut on the tablesaw. and then just glued up like any panel.

Thanks Bob, The bowl looks like it had more depth to it like it was 6/4 or 8/4. It's amazing to me that you could do that with 4/4 wood. Thanks again for the info.

Beautiful platter Bob. I really like the foot and detail (as well as the wood choices and combination).

I hear ya on the photo tent - I have a 16" platter I need to get a picture of one of these days and think it may 'overflow' my tents usable capacity. (Oh, the terrible 'size' problems that come with finally turning on Mustard :D)
