Shop built Disk Sander Q?

Has anyone out there tried to create their own disk sander. I would like to make a 12 inch sander with a motor that I have. I was curious to find out if anyone has had any success with this and possibly any suggestions to help me along.

If your motor is ball bearing, 5/8" shaft, and 1725 RPM, then the sanding disk from Shopsmith will work. There have been several articles over the years on building a sander.
