Here is a little experiment with logo's on wooden pens. It is a decal using some new Testors transparent custom decal system. Very, Very thin stuff. I first used CA over top and let it dry/cure, put the decal on and then another coat of CA on top.

This is the old fashion model decals like you use to do when you were a kid. But with this you print your own. Then spray a 'bonder' on top to seal in the colors. I did a few other "pen size" decals to try but not done them all yet. Our church logo, a picture of my son shooting hoops, Superman Shield etc.

This is an Atlas Pen, I have plenty of barrels but no kits. Woodcraft was out in my visit today. But that wasn't going to stop my idea from being tried. Bad photo... one day I'll put together a photo curtain thingy. (Oh.... that's Maple and Purple Heart)

I am very interested in your results. I work for the family business and we like giving logo pens to our clients. Of course, they are cheapie plastic pens, but my Dad asked if I could make any special logo pens for our most valuable clients. I've tossed around ideas of segmented turnings, but that would be extremely difficult with our company logo (see attachment). A decal that would not be an obvious decal would be ideal. Please keep us up to date on your results.

I tried doing something like this for my uncle's insurance agency with mixed results. I don't know if I was doing something wrong, or the paper stuff was malfunctioning, but some pens turned out great, and others had to be re-sanded and re-finished. Good luck to you, and I look forward to seeing more!

Jon,

If I might ask, where did you acquire this material? If one can do photos I can see great family gifts!

Tim, I hate to tell you this, but I think you might not be part of the family. You name does not match the family business name:eek:;) Just kidding, but it was a small detail I noticed.

Jon, the decal looks pretty good by the pics. Did you apply the top coat of CA while the lathe was spinning?? Just curious if you were concerned about pulling part off if was not adhered well enough.

I got mine at Hobby Lobby. It is a Testors kit. but it can be found elsewhere on the net:

I got away from it for a bit here doing knots. But I'm going to give it another go in the next few days. I have some ideas of making it an easier process.

Tim, I'll give your logo a try.

And yes folks, I think pictures are possible. That is something I'm going to mess with.
