Hi,

I'm a novice woodworker and I'm making a Tambour clock from Oak that's a late Christmas gift.

I was using MDF to use on the router with a trim bit, seems it was too rough of a cut from the bandsaw and the bit grabbed the piece and caused a hairline crack, I've used the spindle sander to go into it some more but it's kind of deep. Also {I'm a novice} there's a 3/32" hole that needs to be filled.

I've tried plastic wood and stain on a test piece. I first applied Zinsser's Seal Coat. The filled crack and hole easily shows through. I hate to use paint, any suggestions? I was thinking about sawdust and CA glue but wouldn't that effect the finish?

Also can someone explain why DAP would say to stain first before applying their plastic wood? I called them, the person I spoke to didn't know and someone would call.

Thanks,
Phil
