I have been poking and proding enought for information so I thought I would post some picts of my goings on/purchases and my upgrade from the HF dc unit, so here they are...

*note: the blower motor clears the track for the garage door by about a 1/4in. The line overhead is for future expansion or at least an overhead port for a overhead blade guard/dust pick up and for my router table(which now has to be modified so that it can flow more air) and planer

if you are looking for a large/floor drill press, you really ought to try out the Steel City... the 6in stroke and the depth stop are awesome! The 6in port is for the jointer via a QD hose connection. I added a 4in port to add dust/chip collection at the drill press later this spring.

6in port for the bandsaw. It only has one 4in but I plan on adding an additional pickup to get the dust that collects around the lower guides. (I have a slick idea for this... stay tuned for future updates) Any ideas on splitting the 6in to supply 2 4in ports? Right now, I am leaning twards a 6x4x4 lateral.

In playing some with the lathe earlier this year, having at least a sanding hood would be quite helpful so I ran this branch so I can build one in the near future.

ok, someone should warn you about the sheer volume of cosmoline that is used.... it gets EVERYWHERE!!

The new byrd cutterhead...

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k31/jackrabbit101/Cnv0044.jpg

ok, it really isnt that hard to change out the cutter head after a trip to HF for a gear pulling set to make life a little easier. I should have taken pictures of the itermediate steps but if you know what bearings you have (depending on how they are attached to the pillow blocks) it might be adviseable to have a set on hand before you start the installation. I took my time and didnt damage anything thank goodness.

Just about complete with the assembly and setup of my new jointer. Can anyone offer some suggestions/advise in setting the outfeed table parrallel to the cutterhead? I got the outfeed table height set pretty well but then I checked the other side of the head (pulley side) and I am probably a couple thousands off, across the width of the cutter head. Tomorrow I will continue trying to get the goo off of everything and get the plugs on so I can make sure everything works.

It looks like someone has been busy.:D I really like your new set up. I appreciate the information on the Steel City drill press. Hopefully one will be in my shop in the future.

Thanks for the kind words everyone... its been painful at times re-arranging so it would work for me and fit everything, but its getting there.

George, too bad the one from my bandsaw wouldnt work.... that one has no droop issues. Now I have to get my table out of the box from woodpeckers and get it and the laser installed on the DP. I am thinking of a small storage chest on the base for bits and misc... any thoughts?

As far as a storage chest, I saw some plans for a mobile chest that pulls up and around the stand. That will be what I do. Trying to remember where I saw it. It has a cutout on the top for the column...and can be removed if you really have to drop the table.

I moved most of my DP bits and wht-not into a drawer unit right by the DP. However you do it, you will be glad you did.

Here it is. This is what I will be doing. Better to take up the space below the DP than next to it.

"everal things about this cart make it a pleasure to use in the shop. It has a large sturdy top, which provides a convenient place to set drill bits and other tools while you're working on a project. By swinging the drill press' metal table out of the way, you've got a broad surface for supporting taller workpieces when drilling.

The deep drawer and shelves below offer plenty of storage. Plus an adjustable outfeed support on each side of the cart can be raised or lowered to support long workpieces (see photo). And on those rare occasions when you need to use the full height of your drill press, the cart can be easily rolled out of the way."

Nice looking shop.
Wish I had you ceiling height.
Tall ceilings and good lighting make a great shop.

Brent, great looking shop. I like the way you plan and invest in future growth of your shop. That bit storage idea is cool, good use of normally wasted space.

Brent ,Aren't those cutter heads available as an option when you order your Jointer?
