This piece was turned from a crotch that I got in a wood exchange with Lou Alpy. I had not turned beech before, it's hard wood but seems to work OK when it's still wet (it does like to crack though).
This one is sanded to 800 and finished with burnished bee's wax.
5 inches high by 4 1/4 inches in diameter.

Looks great! The figure on that wood is fantastic! Not what I'd expect from beech! Now that I think of it, I think there's some beech in the backyard...

George, that's got some very nice color and interest in it.

Have you thought about a collar...something dark...to see if that enhances the piece? It's got a pretty large top area with a smaller opening and it may benefit from that detail. It would also give a little uplift at the opening for interest. Easy to try without committing either way...

Nice figure in the wood George. Good job of presenting it in that hollow form.

The wood was wet when I turned it and the curl has already started to texture up. It may take weeks, but I will sand it down when it's dry and maybe even put a finish on it... For now, it was fun to do!:D
