Howdy all... I lurk here a lot, but haven't posted a lot... I did this lidded box today because a friend asked me last night why I didn't put lids on those "little bowls so they'd be useful"?... This is Blue Maho with a spalted Ash lid and Blue Maho finial. This instantly became SWMBO's favorite piece to date.

Great looking box Bill. Like the contrasting woods. Well done.

Looks good, but that finial looks like it needs to be registered as a lethal weapon. ;)

It looks very good. I like the contrast of the woods.

I really like this one. And the finial looks great. Sometimes a dainty finial is hard to use to get the box lid off, and you wind up breaking it (or maybe that's just me). Guess you wont be having problems with your finial!

Thanx everyone... appreciate the feedback. I may have gone a bit over the top with the finial, but the large flat lid needed something beefy (I thought)... and I was trying to ensure that it tied back to the box material.

Ben... You are 100% correct on dainty finials. I've had several broken off by folks at craft shows when they grab the finial to open the box lid... and I don't make the lids tight if I put a dainty finial on!... Had a lady pick up one lid by the finial and swing it around while talking to her friends about how pretty and delicate it was... SNAP... yep - delicate :)
