I have had to replace my laser tube (synrad 30 watt) in my Explorer II (under warranty :)--less than a year old and only firing at half power). They sent me a Coherent 30 watt. Does anyone know anything about this tube? Is it better than a Synrad? I thought Synrad was the best tube. I have placed a call to my sales rep to discuss this change in tubes.
Thanks for any replies.
Scott

if I am not mistaken, I think synrad bought out coherant. I think they are one and the same.

This is true.

But heck... your experience with Synrad doesn't support that they're any better than Coherent.

Mine has a Coherent tube (40W) in it and works great.

Scott, Rodne Gold has probably the most experience with both of these tubes. He has posted before on this topic eg:

www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?p=442196#poststop (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?p=442196#poststop)
www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=37477 (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=37477)

Do a search on Coherent for more comments. I don't have any more recent info, maybe PM Rodne and get his opinion if he doesn't join in here.

It is my impression that in 2006 there were some problems with the Coherent tubes but hopefully some of the problems have been resolved.

I believe Coherent bought Excell which bought Synrad. But even if the companies are related it does not mean the reliability of the products are identical.

:) This it true Mike. How long have you had your ZX? I have owned a Mercury for about 2 years, it ran great and had a Synrad tube in it-- I sold it and upgraded to the Explorer II.
