Hello,
Does anyone have any links on making your own bench dogs and hold downs or any other benchtop aids. This is all I could find.

For dogs, I just use short pieces of dowels that fit the dog holes and slip rubber chair leg bottoms on the end to provide a non-slip surface and keep the dogs from falling through. I'd bet wrapping a large rubber band several times around the end would also work.

I used a dowel cut similar to the example, bit continued the cut down about 1 1/2" then placed a toothpick at the bottom of the cut forming a slight 'spring' to hold the dog in place. Think I saw that on WoodWright Shop...

Our own Alan Turner showed on FWW how to make wooden bench dogs (http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/subscription/Workshop/WorkshopArticle.aspx?id=26990). You must be a subscriber to view it.

Since your link is to round dogs, I'll assume 3/4" round. I made these (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=65688&d=1180753957) by turning down a 7/8" dowel on the tablesaw. The version in your link looks about as easy as it could get.

Alex, if you subscribe to the magazine do you get access to the online info, or are they two separate subscriptions?

I think 2 separate. Online is $15 a year, I think.
