Hello all, hope you had a Merry Christmas.
Here's a few pics of my almost completed kitchen remodel. I bought QSRO bought skip planed and then milled for use in all the cabinets. The kitchen was taken back to the sheetrock and rebuilt. All the work except for the granite counter top (it took two full slabs) and running a gas line for the new 36" cooktop was done by the LOML and myself. We used tempered reeded glass for the inserts on the cabinets that sit over the granite contertop.

Still need to make raised panels for the back side of the bar (similar to the end panel on the small cabinet by the frig) and the ceiling flourencent lighting will be replaced with canned lighting and 3 pendants over the bar area. I plan on making matching crown molding for the tops of all the cabinets but still working on the pattern.

Outstanding job Gilbert! Looks like a very comfortable layout also. Nothing better than a cozy kitchen...done by the people who use it.

Beautiful job on the kitchen Gilbert.
How tall is the LOYL? :D

Thanks for the comments.

The finish was Minwax Ealy American stain followed by numerous coats of wipe-on poly. If I had to do it over again, I would have dyed the Oak rather than stained it.

She's 5 feet tall. She uses a step ladder for the two upper level cabinets.

Glenn, you're right. It is a bit cozy at 10' by 15'. Maybe in the next house we'll get a kitchen big enough for a commercial style stove..

I can't wait till I have that kind of talent. How long have you been creating cabinets.

How long have you been creating cabinets.

Besides the plat panel cabinets I made for the garage (workshop), this is my first set of cabinets.

And that fact makes the work even more outstanding. As soon as I get my Pm66 and DJ 20 up and running I'll be doing that this summer. I live in SW Pa and a close friend has a sawmill and kiln. I'll be using Cherry, or hopefully Sasafrass if he can get to enough of it this spring. I am hopefull I do as well as you did.

I bet that will look nice. That's what I wanted to use but the LOML insisted on using Oak.

Very nice indeed.

Care to inform me on the bit set used for the drawer fronts?

I am starting another kitchen and I like the look of yours.

That is a lot of wipe on finish!

The router bits used were from Whiteside. The rail & stile set was 6001, the panel bit was 6000B and the edge bit for the doors and drawer front was 6020.

It WAS a lot of wipe-on poly. I have the equipment to have sprayed a finish but no place to do it in.

Gilbert,

Outstanding job. They look great - and nobody would ever guess they were your first cabinets.

Gilbert,
Cozy is GOOD! If you're stove top puts out enough heat...and your oven does it's thing...you don't need more floor space. Our nephew is a chef (Four Seasons Toronto right now ) and we have some real foodie friends. Our nephew helped design ours (here http://www.pbase.com/gclabo/kitchen) and kept saying keep it cozy. No one we know likes large kitchens...they just wear you out.

Again great job!

Glenn, you're right about cozy being good. However, if you have two cooks it get rather tight. Besides, I have long wanted a LARGE commercial stove with double ovens and LOTS of counter top. I'm very happy though with what I have now though; it works.

P.s. Maybe I've been looking at too many Kitchen Design magazine.

gilbert, VERY NICE job. did you build the pantry as three separate units and stacked them or as one unit with three openings? what inspired you to build the extra tall wall cabinet above the stove?

Gilbert Vega

Frank, thanks for the comments. The pantry was built as one unit with three openings/compartments. The tall cabinet reaching the ceiling actually encloses the stove-top vent duct. I enclosed the duct with Oak ply. I actually wanted a free standing vent but didn't think it would look right with the stainless vent pipe going up to the 12' ceiling. I discovered after I bought the current range vent that I could have exhausted at about 9' through the back wall into the garage ceiling. Oh well, didn't figure it out until it was too late.

Nice Work Gilbert,

I am in the middle of finishing our own kitchen.... I might have to 'borrow' :) your tile design over your range.....
