Well, I thought I'd be nosy and see what everyone got in the way of woodworking stuff this year. So I thought I'd start a thread where we could share our gifts with each other.

I'll start off.
My woodworking over the past few years has taken a radical turn towards handtools. I've learned that they can be faster sometimes than machines, and jigs and fixture in the "one off" hobbiest enviorment.
This year my wife, Lee, gave me some more planes to go with my increasing plane and handtool collection.
My gifts were Lie-Nielsen's 5, 6, and 7 bench planes.
I just had to try them out this morning on a rough sawn piece of Bocote. Such a childish act on Christmas morning.:D,;)

So what does everyone else have to share around our "virtual tree"?

Congrats, Mike! "Santa-wife" was VERY good to you!

Nothing woodworking-related under our tree outside of a picture of the nightstands I'll be building for our new master bedroom. Oh, and a few framing opportunities...Professor Dr. SWMBO acquired a couple prints for me; one is an ink drawing of St. Basil's in Moscow and the other is a print of the Siberian city of To'bolsk, where our girls were born.

I got nothing woodworking related at all. Of course, I have a couple of gifts left to be opened, but I doubt they have anything to do with woodworking. :(

I bought myself a Festool vac, a set of beading turning tools and a captive ring tool. Plus my daughter got me a WoodWorkers gift card. My BIL made us an incredible endgrain cutting board as well. He came over to show it to me and I offered to buff it on my 3 wheel system. When I finished buffing it......he gave it to me.:D I'll post pics when I find my usb cable.

I got some cash from my MIL. I'm planning to put it toward a Festool sander, but am still deciding on which one I want to start with.

These are stock photos, but I got a Ryobi Corner Cat sander which I asked about here a few weeks ago. I haven't tried it other than plugging it in and turning it on but it looks like it will be a respectable sander. Not as smooth as a Festool, but way better than the POS Mouse I have (which also has NO dust collection.)

Also got the Hose Garage for my Festool vac which is something I never understood why they didn't have before.

I got the small plow plane from LV with the extra irons. I tested it on plain ol' pine. Didn't lap or sharpen the irons and it still worked very well.

Also got a set of brad point bits.

Mike,

You've got quite a wife there. If she had any sisters with similar gift giving tendencies I'll bet there's a whole bunch of guys who'd like to meet them.

As for me I didn't get any WW stuff under the tree. She figued since I'd treated myself to a SS and a few other machines this year I didn't need anything else. However she did get me the Garmin 60CSx GPS that I've been wanting.

Bosch 4410L SCMS arrived a few weeks before Christmas due to a local shop sale. I never thought I'd be intrigued by the whole "laser" thing but...I'm hooked. ;)

I have had a hard time posting pictures, I cant figure out how to reduce the pixels. (I know it doesn't happen unless there are pics, but I had to gloat!)

Today, my wonderful children and my lovely wife bought me the PC 7518 router and the Hitachi 18 ga. Brad nailer. My sister-in-law bought me a subscription to FWW as well. How can you not love Christmas! :D

Happy Holidays Everyone! I am sure glad I found this forum. I have learned a lot for being a member/contributor in the last year! YOU ARE ALL GREAT!

Not much yet. Some money from my parents towards the SCMS I'm saving for. Also they got me a book on power tools by someone I've never heard of. Leafing through it it does appear to be a decent book, and when we got home a few minutes ago, I noticed it is a Taunton Press publication. (Mom got a steal on it reg 24.95 for 4.99! Maybe I should let her shop for all my power tools!!:D ) Jim.

I was going to start a similar thread until I found this one. I did pretty good this year. Heater for the shop, 2 sets of cabinet scrapers - Lie Nelsen straights and E. Garlick shaped set, Wixey digital angle gauge, 150 piece HSS drill bit set, and the crown jewel - Leigh 24" Dovetail Superjig.

I also forgot to add that while cleaning out a "hidden" storage area in our attic over the garage on X-mas eve, I found approx 70 bf misc hardwoods including mahogany, white & red oak, and some ash and a nice old 5' long wood level.

Well My loving wife and mother went in together and got me a Festool CT22 and ETS 150/3 sander. I also got some new bandsaw tires, a link belt, and a set of engineers squares. Needless to say I am very pleased.

Hope everyone got what they wanted.

At first I asked the wife for some Bessey clamps, but after some research I changed my mind and asked for the new jet style clamps. These were waiting under the tree this morning. I can't wait to try them out.

I didn't give them much of a list as I know better.
I got the cd/alarm clock to replace my dead one (mp3 player doesn't plug into the wall, limited battery life).
Shirts, underwear, some pj's and then the one that is going toward the woodworking.........some cash.

Mom, I could either give her a specific list (go here on the internet and this is the item number), or tell her somewhat generally (look for a plane about this long, and with this number on it) for garage sales.
Dad, you have to be a LOT more specific (he picked up a brand new Stanley the other day at our "junk" store (blades normally), thinking that if I have to clean up a used one, this should be better (already clean, just needs tuned). Mom called and asked (I told her only a couple of NEW brands to look for).

My wife gave me a new iPod :D to replace one that was stolen at work. Even better, what she DIDN'T give me was grief over the stuff I've picked up since Black Friday for several home projects: PC 6 gal air compressor w/ finish and brad nailers, EZ Smart saw guide, Jet glue-up clamps, Wixie blade angle finder, WWII saw blade and a host of smaller items.

I'm still angling for a TS and BS, though!

I made out like a bandit this year.

- Forrest WW II to replace the one I blew up a few weeks back (stupid mistake).
- Set of dividers from LV
- Diamond truing tool for my Tormek (wheel has a bit of a lope in it right now which has to go)
- 5" fret saw from ToolsForWorkingWood

Brian Hale
12-26-2007, 8:58 AM
I must have been a good boy this year! :D

PC 7518
LV 36" straight edge
Veritas large shoulder plane
Veritas hold down
Aluminum clipboard
Fire extinguisher (every shop should have one of these)
Veritas roller assembly for my honing guide and a few other odds and ends.

Still have 2 more gatherings, one with my brother and his family and one with a couple very close friends.

And then the woodworking show on 1/4/08! ;)

Brian :)

I found a Kreg Crosscut guide under the tree. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Q5QW9R5YL._AA280_.jpg I'm looking forward to getting some shop time so I can set it up and try it out.

She also got me a Garmin 660 GPS (well actually it was g fit for both of us) so now I can find any lumber yard or BORG any place I go. :D

And she took my favorite picture of my hunting dog (Rudy) and had it blown up to 11 X 14 size and framed it for my office. He's a great dog. He found over 49 pheasants in 5 outings and this is his first year hunting. Now if I can only learn to hit a few more of them.....

My daughter and son-in-law got me a heated mat for my shop. This is great a I do not have heat in my shop. I live in the Midwest and it can get pretty cold standing at bench or lathe. I'll be giving it a workout tonight.

Well, the closest thing to a woodworking tool is a Mr.Heater portable LP heater from my sons. Here is a stock pic, too cold to run out to the garage...

My older son had an ink drawing of our lake framed for myself and two sisters, with room to add photos through the 36 years we've owned our lake home. We are all going to pick out the photos, insert them, and hang it. We were going to do it on Christmas...but I had that frozen/burst pipe issue. Off this AM back up there to remedy and hopefully we can do it this weekend. Anyway, very nice gift!

This was a great christmas for the shop. After a long year of reading reviews and articles, I bought the Grizzly Hybrid Table Saw. I haven't had time to set it up yet, but I am super excited.
Also, my mother in law bought me a new Makita Lithium Battery drill. I couldn't ask for anything better.

LOML allowed me to purchase a Jet Proshop Table Saw during a great sale at sears.com right before thanksgiving, which was my biggest gift. Shortly after thanksgiving i broke my leg on a parachute jump at work (army) so i didnt think about woodworking or home improvement too much until this week. Because i didnt have a big list, LOML let me order a few things. I now have a Pinnacle 24" precision T square, some bessey and woodcraft parrallel clamps and an EZ smart 100" system enroute via mail order :D. To bad i have to wait 3-4 months to use any of it after i start physical therapy :( Oh well, late is better than never.

about that Dewalt drill. is it the 14.4v? I have the 14.4 and i could have sworn they made a little circ saw that took 14.4v but have never been able to find it.

I must have been real good this past year. :) :) :)

Picked up a Delta 16 1/2" (590 L) drill press the week befor Christmas, and the LOML surprised me with a 9" disc / 6 x 48 belt sander. Then #2 son gave me a Bosch Pony. To top it off my staff at work got together and provided a large amount gift certificate at one of my favorite tool stores which I plan to put toward a mini/midi lathe and a few gouges. SWMBO says no bowls or spindles until her tables are finished, right after I rearrange the shop for all of the above.

I was a very lucky man this year. Since my birthday and Christmas fall on the same day, I made out like a bandit. I'm truly overwhelmed by my family's generosity.

My wife bought me a Steel City 17" Drill press

My mother-in-law bought me a Makita cordless drill combo set.

My wife gave me a shelf pin jig set.
I think she wants some new bookcases!

My daughters gave me a set of safety goggles with two photos of Norm taped to them! When I opened them they quoted his safety lecture from NYW word for word from memory! ...the most important of these is to wear safety glasses....LOL
I guess they have been watching for 19 years, too!
