I asked this in the turners too. Just wondering what was your favorite piece of work in 2007? There are some very creative minds here. Picture up everyone.:D

Is this a project done by us personally, or any project we've seen on the board?
I've seen some amazing stuff posted this last year.

Although I'm not completely finished with it, my favorite piece I made this year was this Walnut Occassional Table. I still have to put 2 or 3 more coats of Poly on it, but I absolutely love the way it turned out. It's rather simple, but that's what I like about it and the table goes perfect in our library.

I'd have to go with this one for just pure enjoyment, but my vanities with the cherry crotch door panels will be right up there, too.

Thats a hard decision, not that I've made so many different things this year. While the mantle project was one I have been wanting to do for a long time, the table I made in the class on furniture making at WoodCraft would have to be my favorite. That's because it's the first piece of furniture I'd made in over twenty years and I learned a lot of new skills as well.

After making this piece I have several different tables in the "planning" stages. Hopefully some will be done by the end of 2008.

I liked how the bookcases came out. Got the idea for the standards from a magazine. The Maple and Cherry looked great together and goes right with the Cherry and Maple desks I made for my daughters.

Wasn't the most difficult but very enjoyable to make.

Well, since I only built 1 thing this year, by default, it is my favorite piece. 1/2 a bunk bed for my son. The other 1/2 will be started in the spring.

I am going to answer on others work. I've seen some great stuff posted here. Simply amazing workmanship!

The project I have enjoyed watching come along is Keith Starosta's shuffleboard. Reading his process and troubleshooting with pictures was great.

Favorite was my Morris Chair. Been wanting to make one for a long time. Made full use of my Jet Mortiser, even used it to allow square pegs to pin the tenons. A little complexity of angled tenons and mortises and the use of a lock miter to show four QS faces on the legs. Very pleased with the outcome. Just needs a nice shellac topcoat and then off to the upholsterer for leather cushions that my butt is destined for! ;)

I'd say this walnut rocker. I've made a few but for 2007 this one came out very well.

I made a lot of furniture in 2007 and a couple of pieces stand out. The teak sofa for a friend is one...It had challenging exposed joinery like the mitered dovtails. and really came nicely together.

Our new bath vanity and mirror surround. We're still deciding on whether to use solid surface material (e.g., Corian) or real stone for the top. The bathroom is now being demolished and a lot of tile work is ahead for the Holidays.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,
-Jeff :)

My wife suggested that, while it's not all woodwork (but the rafters and beams are) that I post this project that I finished late spring 2007. It's off the pool, and served as a nice venue for a family reunion we held 4th of July.

ps: i built it from (below) ground up, all by my lonesome. Took only a little less than a year.

Mark, that teak sofa still ranks as one of my all-time favorites. The joinery aside, something about the simple-lined, modern design is horribly appealing. Man, that's beautiful!

Wow, sure is some impressive work out there. My favorites are Bill's segmented turning and the zebrawood chair, although all those posted are wonderful. My best for 2007 is a 1750s tall chest reproduction made of mahogany. All hand carved. A sincere neander effort.

My favorite project would have to be the plaque I made to honor all Medal of Honor recipients past, present and future. My daughter and I were fortunate enough to attend the Grand Opening of the New Medal of Honor Museum in Charleston, SC this past May. Only about 1000 to 1100 people were allowed to attend along with 49 Medal of Honor recipients. The plaque is 49 inches long by 30 inches tall. The "ribbons" are made from 1 1/4" walnut and the three medals are all lasered to represent the Army, Air Force and the Navy/Marines/Coast Guard. The "medals sit on hand sculped red oak that is bordered with purpleheart. I donated it to the Museum where it now hangs.

I'm flattered that someone with your ability likes my chair. I can carve with a grinder to make the chair but the detail work on your chest amazes me. People think I have a lot of patience to build stuff but I don't know if I could ever muster the determination to get good enough to tackle something like your chest. Really impressive work.

Almost embarassed to post with all the talent showing here. The attention to deail is amazing! I guess I have four favorites for '07. First is my first band sawn box I made for my wife, a cherry TV cabinet for our living room (pics to follow), my first attempt at turning bottle stoppers, Black Palm no less and two dove tail marking gauges with home made knurled knobs with Mother of Pearl inlays. The birds eye maple one is a Christmas gift and the ebony one is a keeper!:D

For me, it would have to be this Demilune table I made for LOML. Several firsts in this one. First try at bent lamination for the apron. First shot at making a bookmatched starburst pattern with veneer, and first time making bridle joints for the legs.

I have two (if that is allowed) One is at the following link. It is a shelf clock; these always look good.
http://sawmillcreek.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=66659&d=1182391023

The other is a card table I finished in November. The customer wanted some changes from the original which is at Yale. We changed the inlays on the legs and the central panel, which I think were for the better, but I wasn't so sure about the figured satinwood surrounding the ovals. The original had what looked to me like Primavera ( a blond, mahogany like wood of fairly bland figure); I think this actually enhanced the figured mahogany ovals, while the figured satinwood we used looks a bit distracting. Still it was a pretty nice table.
