I'm trying to get a Stanley Bedrock 607 tuned up.
The original blade is so short it needs to be replaced.
I'm new at this, but I'm guessing I should get an updated chip breaker along with a blade.

What would you folks recommend I get and where is a good place to get it?

Thanks much,

Jim

I don't believe you can get any better than Ron Hock's blades.

I'll third the Hock blades. I have a stanley sweetheart #4C that I use as my smoother. The hock blade and chipbreaker have made it a sweetheart.

I know you can also buy Lie-Nielsen and Lee Valley blades as well if you like.

One other thing to think about is A2 vs O1 steel. O1 is easier to get an edge and I'm told it is easier to get sharper, but won't last as long. I tend to get the A2, so I'm not 100% certain on this.

Add another voice to the chorus.... I had the same experience with a 608 from the big auction, solved it completely with a Hock blade and chipbreaker.

I expect you'll love the results with your 607. If you still have a problem, it will be something other than the blade.

Happy shavings.
