Just got early Christmas gift, a PC 4212. My Freud 2000e is probably a little too heavy for a dovetail application. (Besides if I got a template when I bought the router, I cannot find it). So I am looking for a recommendation on a router that I may end up dedicating to this jig. Thanks John

I like the DW618. Nice, smooth router with variable speed. Works well with a dovetail jig.

I second the Dewalt. I have a Freud mounted in my router table, and wanted a good ket for a fixed and plunge - Dewalt has been great.

I have never had a hand held that I could use guide bushings on. Have built a number of jigs already.

618 is very smooth operation.

I have a PC4210, the standard version of your jig. So far I have built two sets of cabinet drawers with it. I have a PC 690 with fixed base dedicated to the jig. Once you get the dovetail bit set properly you won't have to change it if you can dedicate the router to the jig. You can pickup the 690 virtually anywhere fairly cheap. I think Amazon has a deal right now on them, $99 for the router and you get a PC343 sander free. You can also check Ebay, there are always some there.

I'm sure some of the other routers in this size range would work fine too but the 690 is the only one I have used on it.

Just got a DW D handle for the simple reason you can center the guide bushing. It comes with the fixture( a dummy shaft and cone). For dovetailing it,s a nice convience.

Thanks for the quick response. Paul, I could not pass up that deal on the pc 690 and the sander. It is around $87.00 now and with an Amazon reward certificate I got it for $63.00. I am hoping it comes with the template that fits my guide. I will keep the Dewalt in mind for the future. Thanks again, John

HD is no longer selling the 3 base model. They have them for $199 and there is a $40 mail in rebate from DW.

I agree...the DW618 in its fixed base is a very nice solution. It's pretty much the only time I use a non-Festool router now as the lower center of gravity make steady work on the dovetail jig easier.

I have been waiting for this to go to $199 in my area, as I would like to have another of these routers/sets, but it is still at $279. It would be a super deal at $160 ($199-$40 rebate).
