Long story short, I had my Jet air filtration unit running yesterday and it just shut off by itself (timer was off). Trying to restart it only resulted in a loud humming for a few seconds during which it would spin the fan a little bit before shutting down again. I pulled the manual and thought the likely culprit was the "PC board" since it was running fine just prior to shutting down (= motor OK).
I called Jet technical service this morning and they agreed with my thinking. However, prior to taking my order for a new PC board, they suggested that I take the PC board out and look for any burn marks. They also suggested that if I didn't see any, to blow any dust off of it, reinstall and try it again. The board didn't have any burn marks and looked very clean. However, I blew across the face of it anyway and reinstalled. Guess what - it worked just fine and has run all afternoon.
