Well, Looks like I have a Delta 1460 on the way.
Price, wanted $650 offered $350, looks like we settled on $400.00

Has a box of chisels and steady rest plus a chuck.

Pics soon.

I know I have seen them cheaper and more $$ so maybe not a super deal, but think I will be happy.

Pic soon.........

comment away.

Runs good, bearings are making a little noise, are they servicable? I know replacements are available, but they feel tight just a little noisy.

Thanks

John I would suggest that you make sure that the bearings have plenty of lubrication and give it try.

John, I have a similar old Delta Rockwell that I turn on. I love it! You should enjoy many years of use on this beauty.

Thanks for the reply,

I will try to tear into it this weekend and see if I can get some grease into the old bearings. Does anyone know if they are sealed?

thanks

John,
That's a fine machine---looks to be in good condition---comes with a nice suite of chisels and accessories. The 2-piece tailstock has lateral adjustment and accepts shims so you can get the tail center smack on the headstock center.
I have had a like model apart and found bearings were shielded, but not sealed. With effort you can manually squeeze grease past the shields and into the bearings.
Pay attention (draw yourself a picture) to the number and order of the shims on the shaft as you disassemble: the wavy washers/shims accomodate longitudinal clearances. Makes the difference between endplay on the shaft and preload on the bearings.
If you're going to the effort of full disassembly to gain access, why not start with a fresh set of bearings?

New bearings where my first thought, price was about $140.00 for a set. There might be cheaper ones out there, just have to look a little more. I will try to service theese first, unless I can find a cheaper source for bearings.

Thanks

John, Looks like a great deal!
You might try this place for bearings:
http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/Kit7124?gclid=CJrW-J7GvZACFRpdagodVmMrXg
Those are the ones that fit my Jet 1236. ZZ is shielded both sides. RS is sealed. I looks like shielded is used wherever chips may pose a problem, as on the right side of the head. Where not a problem, sealed 2RS are used.
See column on the left for more sizes and English dims.
There are also some available on eBay. You probably only need 2. Maybe more. The current bearing should be marked with a part number. If not you can mic them, or maybe someone has a parts tree and can tell you. It's prpbably something common and should not cost more than $10-$20.

Well, have it apart (real easy). Found the bearings are made by New Departure the model is C88505. Called the local Napa Autoparts they have one for $28.00, They don't know when they can get the second one though. Might just wait until monday and call some of the online suppliers. Looked at a couple sites but could not get a good cross reference.

Will keep at it.

IF anyone can cross ref theese that would be great.

Thanks
John
