Has anyone ever created a jig to hold a "portable" belt sander securly to the table, so that it can be used more like a table sander?
I fiond myself lying down my belt sander on the bench, to "sand to the line", with suprisingly ok results, but have always felt I should build a holder for it.
Anyone done this yet?

I don't know how much this will help but I believe one of the magazines had plans for one a few years ago. Might have been Shopnotes, but I don't know for sure. I'll see if I can dig anything up.

If you have access to a library, try some of these:

I seldom use my portable belt sanders, but the last few times I did it was clamped in a vice upside down.

ShopNotes - issue 53. Recently I have seen a similar set up in one of the WW magazines.

I just used the bench vice the two times I did this. Worked fine with my Bosch 3"x21" sander.

Yep, I have used my vice many times to hold the sander. My sander also has a front and rear handle that I use to clamp to my assembly table...

I have a B&D 3" x 18" that came with its own table clamps. It works good as a small table sander.

Hi Rob,
I am not much of a poster, more a reader. Your question with the portable beltsander was solved by me a couple of years ago. I made my self a small jig and up to now I am happy with it. I dont have any room in my small workshop for stationary machinery, for the reaon that it is only 10'x14' big. But it has central heating in it :).
I will show you the pictures I just took of the jig. Hopefully it will help you.

Like that dust chute you came up with, Erik. Pretty clever...
