I've used McMaster Carr for stuff like this when I can't find it locally, www.mcmaster.com (http://www.mcmaster.com) Only downside for somethings is you have to buy a pack of 5, 10, 20, etc.

Try a local Fastenal if you have one near you.

You may find a local industrial supplier. Mine is Ocean State Screw and Bolt. Pretty catchy, if you think of it. I bought a few galvanized 1" x 8 TPI bolts to make carving / sanding stands for chucks. Online is fine, but you get killed on shipping for such small items. Good luck.

try the local agriculture store. Stuff that costs $0.25/item at Lowes and Home Depot costs $0.25/pound at those places.

William - just another option for you - have you thought about one of those Beall wood taps? Problem with metal nuts - you will have to drill them in order to attach to the faceplate and usually there is not a lot of real estate to work with. I picked up a 1 1/4" tap and it's real easy to make a wood faceplate. Just something to think about.
