View Full Version : Will a blank dry if it's been coated in laquer?

I bought a stick of amboyna burl of the bay and it smells like it was coated in laquer. Not sure why - maybe to make it look better for pics.

Not sure if it would prevent cracking at all.

I'm going to make bottle stoppers and pens out of it. Is laquer permeable enough for it to dry? Thanks.

Yes. Slo-o-o-w-w-ly. If I intended to use it for pen blanks, I'd cut the blanks, coat them in anchor seal and store them, stickered, in a cool, wind-free, sheltered location.
