I found a nice piece of Redwood approx. 14" x 2". It was a challenge to turn due to the changing grain and the fact that it was very dry and brittle. After getting it shaped and sanded I was surprised at how much finish it soaked up. I usually apply 3-4 coats of Minwax Poly. This took 13 - 14, slightly sanded with 400 grit between coats. Anyway, my folks were thrilled to receive it as an early Christmas present. And yes, I know I need to work on my picture taking skills.......

Nothing wrong with your pics from here. Wonderful figure in the wood...giving pieces to family is fun. I'm sure they will enjoy it!

That is some phenominal figure, definately worth the challenge. Looks like fire, or intense electrical storm. They will love it.

Nice work Rob. I think you captured the heart of red wood on this one for sure... I did a red wood slab coffe table some years ago 28 x 64 " and used .... a gallon of Minwax wipe on polly gloss on it. shor was pretty , not quite as figured like yours tho. Very well done indeed.A word of caution , Red wood dust can be hard on your lungs and mucus membranes though.

Wow! That is great wood and I like the shape of the bowl! Hey... your pictures aren't blurry... better than I could do!

(I also like the blue chair... oh... that's not what I was supposed to be looking at...?)

Bueatiful grain! I made a lamp with redwood burl about 15 years ago and it soaked up about a quart of danish oil. But boy does it come to light every night when it gets turned on.
