I have found some tutorials about building wood hand planes, but can not seem to find any on building a scraper plane, anybody have any or advice, I could build the hand plane and modify it to a scraper, if somebody knows what angle they work well at. I would mainly be useing it to scrape Bamboo. Cheers Ron.

Ron,

You could build a 55 or 60 degree smoothing plane and just turn the iron around with the bevel facing forward for scraping. A 30 degree bevel against the 55 or 60 degree bed angle would give you something right at or just under 90 degrees. I have a 55 degree plane and it works well as a scraper also.

Ron, I just finished making this little palm scraper. I think this is what youre talking about correct? I just used a bevel gauge set to the angle of a no.80 scraper to bed the blade. I added the sole to give the thinner blade a bit of flex. I didnt build it from a plan I just designed it as I wanted it. You could even put a groove in the bottom if you are using it for rod making.

Yes and Yes, you guys are perfect, that is what I wanted. Basicaly it would be used for rod making, but once made I would think it would make its way over to the other side.
Cheers Ron.

Ron,
LN will custon mill a groove in their block planes for rod making.Look in their site index under block planes. It's listed as an option on their low angle block.
