We actually made these for Christmas 2005. Just never took a picture until now. We did not make anything for Christmas 2006, because we were working on our basement that got flooded late summer that year.

The sides of the tray is Walnut with a walnut finish. The tray part is Baltic Birch with inlayed bands. For decoration and strength I used brass rods as dowels to pin the corners.

Thanks for looking.

Good looking tray!

I've faked brass rod dowel pins before by driving a slotted flathead brass screw, and then filing the head down so as to remove the slot and leave the remaining head flush with the surface.

LOL I've been looking and you can't find good end grain boards anywhere.( where my wife shops) I did a google search and they want big bucks for them.

Material cost there is about $30 per cutting board. The amount of time was not tracked, but lots of sanding, end grain is not as easy to sand as long grain. And if the endgrain is not sanded well, the finish will make the flaws "pop"
