Small Tree Huge Lamp (65" to top of the wood.)

This little Juniper tree was cut down during a land clearing project, and I was allowed to rescue it before it was burned.

I flattened off the big limb on the side, then glued and screwed a piece of 3/4" plywood on it to support a piece of 24" diameter granite.

Thanks for looking,

Ron

I guess you need a good eye for what's under the bark.
Your work is amazing.

Absolutely outstanding. That is one of the coolest uses of "firewood" that I've ever seen.

Another amazing looking piece.

You have a good eye. And that was going to be firewood......

Thanks for the rescue.

Beautiful work; I always enjoy pieces that take advantage of the woods natural shapes and colors. Thanks for sharing. The only thing I don't necessarily care for is the granite; I wish you would have made a wood table. No offense, JMO. Other than that, to MY eye, its a very gorgeous piece.

Wow, congratulations on some pretty fine work. And as someone else said up above.....thanks for the salvation of the tree and putting it to some awesome use.

Extremely cool work. I generally don't go for natural forms but that is sweet. Very well done.

To quote Brick from the movie Anchorman, "I love lamp".

Beautiful work and nicely done.

I am curious as to where you get the stumps. Do you have a lot of land, or a friend with lots of land, or do you know someone who harvests firewood or lumber for another purpose and gives you the random rough scrap?

Hi Alex,

Sorry it took so long to get back. I had to take my wife in for her chemo treatments yesterday, and did not get home til late last night.

Western Juniper is considered to be a weed by a lot of the big ranchers in Central and Eastern Oregon, and I get permission to glean some of it when land clearing projects are going on.

Thanks for your input,

Ron

Hi Todd,

No offense taken.:)

Everyone has their own taste.

I have not glued the granite down to the plywood yet, in case we decide that we want another color of granite. I wish I still had a big slice of juniper root that I cut up into lamp bases. I think it would have made a nice table top.

Thanks for your comments,

Ron

Ron, Just out of curiosity

Did you race a formula car at PIR back in the 1970’s and 1980’s? Perhaps a Brabham or Chevron Formula A?

Ron, you've been blessed with some God given talent. That's amazing. How do you make the wood look so beautiful. I have a piece of Ironwood I'd like to bring back from the dead like that.

Ron, on top of everything else, you have produced a beautiful piece while going through a challenging personal time. May your wife regain her full health soon - you both will remain in my prayers and I'm sure I speak for the rest of SMC. God bless and thanks again for sharing your inspirational artwork.

Great work! Here is a dumb question but I'll ask anyway. How did you route the electric wire up to the lamp?

Outstanding job! I think the granite tabletop is a great addition to the piece overall.

Was it difficult flattening the bottom so that it'd sit flat?
