But mine has to do with the process. Guess this Q would apply to really any project.

In the past I have done strips of wood with screws through them and rest the piece on the points of the exposed screws. It works, albeit rather clumsy sometimes.

What's you preferred method when having to do both sides?

I took a piece of plywood and glued golf tees to the plywood with points up.

Well...if it's mineral oil, there really isn't a need to worry about propping it up. Wipe it on...set the whole thing on a paper towel for a short period of time...wipe it off. If, however, you are using a film finish, you can use the screw idea or...let the finish one side dry to touch for a few hours before flipping it over and doing the other side.

For oils like mineral or walnut, you can also use a short drinking glass or two, or wide mouth pint jars. Then just put the jars or glasses in the dishwasher later. The jars just need to be big enough that the board will easily balance on top for a spell while the oils soaks in. The wife does this when she recoats stuff periodically
