Here's some lids I engraved for gifts this year.
They are turned redwood mounted on Bush's Chili jars.
Wide mouth canning jars would work instead.

Very nice. Did you turn them as well?

Thanks Mike. Yes, just old redwood 2x4s.

Those are really nice:) Do you mount the real lids inside them so they seal, or do those just sit on top?

The wood is turned on the bottom to receive the original lid, so yes, it seals.
The lid could easily be done using a laser instead by cutting a stack (3-4 layers depending on wood thickness) of rings and a top, gluing them together and sanding the sides. The original lid is epoxied into the recess.
The design would be related to the jar and lid. Bush's Chili lids are about 5/8" tall and
2.9" in diameter. Using Kerr wide mouth jars would be different. I do not have those dimensions. I've been collecting the Bush's jars for awhile. Most large markets sell cases of canning jars and there are lots online too. When Bush's Chili goes on sale for $1.5 a jar, I get a jar and a bowl of chili out of it, while Kerr wide mouth jars are about 90 cents each, on average.
