Just got a serving utensil kit from CSUSA:

http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/store/Projects___Kitchenware___Stainless_Steel_Serving_U tensil_Set___serving_set?Args=

2 Questions

1. How do I attach the tangs to the handles?
The tangs are flat "tabs"

2. What should I finish the wood with? that will be waterproof and durable.??

Thanks in advance.

I would drill a little deeper than needed, a little smaller than needed, and holding the handle firmly in hand and with the utensil started; pound the other end of the handle on a hard surface untild it is seated all the way. I would fill the void with a very good epoxy. :)

Adam I just made two sets of those for Christmas presents. Bob hit the nail on the head. Drill a little deeper and slightly smaller. Fill hole with epoxy, insert utensil in handle and let dry. Make sure you get the collar on and wipe off excess epoxy. I use General Finishes Seal-A-Cell, one coat and Arm-R-Seal 3 coats as a top coat. I used this with the mahogany salad bowl set I made for the kids and it has been a year now. They use them at least once a week and they told me if you wash them right away then dry them they still look as good today as when I gave them to the kids.
