As you may have heard, Volusia County Fire Services is mourning a recent Line of Duty Death. John Jacob Curry of Deland Florida was killed while training to fight future brush fires in our area. John “J.J” Curry is survived by Kristen, his wife, and Owen, his 3 year old son. Two days have been set aside for a bowling benefit to be held at Sunshine Bowling Lanes in Deland. The details are below. Please come help us support the family of a local hero, if you are not able to attend, a Trust fund has been set up at SunTrust Bank as well. At the time this is being written, $1,600 dollars is all that is in the trust fund and we all know that will not go very far in supporting a 3 year old. So let’s see just what we can pull together as a community!

Tax-deductable donations can be made to the John Jacob Curry Charitable Trust fund at any SunTrust Bank and will provide direct assistance to Kristen and Owen.

“Come One Come All to Sunshine Bowling Lanes in DeLand on December 22 and 23rd and bowl to benefit the Curry Family. The cost is $15.00 a person ($10.00 of which goes to Kristen) and the hours will be from 1:00 pm till 4:00 pm each day. Tell all your friends and family and let’s pack the place. At the end of the day on the 23rd the Manager of the bowling alley will hand the proceeds over to Kristen. Let’s see how many firefighters we can pack into one bowling alley.........”
