I'm wanting to build a treadle lathe and I've found a lot of nice plans on the net (and that lovely one made by Bill sumpin-er-nuther in this forum).

So I got a used headstock spindle with bearings from a Craftsman 12-in lathe for 15 bucks on ebay. (including the shipping) It's a beautiful thing. I don't have a model no. though.

How do I measure the bore taper on it? Any easy way? So I know what accessories I can add to it.
Is there a standard taper on those craftman lathes? It's 3/4-in x 16 TPI.

Thanks!

thanks, that helps a lot.

BTW, I wonder how many beginners make my mistake of sticking a finger all the way into the spindle bore-- nice Japanese finger trap effect!

Hi Pete, I would also say an MT-1. Good luck with your endeavor, they are a challenge but well worth it. I would love to see your lathe when finished. Take lots of photos. :)
