I was visiting my mom a few years ago in the Seattle Washington area.
She had this strange looking tree in her front yard she called it a monkey puzzle tree.
It ran maybe 110’ straight as a arrow and had bark like armor plating if I remember correctly the bark was in segments about 6’x9’ each, with a little roll up at the bottom. it was also very hard and smooth it kind of reminded me of acorn shell hardness and texture but much thicker. The limbs were fairly high of the ground. Any way my mom has since moved and I was thinking of making her a gift out of some of this type of wood or actually a few pieces of the bark would be even better. So does anyone have a few pieces of bark lying around or know how I can lay my hands on some?
i posted this in the tradeing want-ad /forum as well. but the turners somehow seem to know where the trees are going to fall before anyone else:eek: so i hope you dont mind if i re-post it here as well.

That kind of tree is supposed to be near extinction.

I believe they are very common in Hawaii. You may want to do a search for turners or a turning club in Hawaii and e-mail them for help.
