Fist, let me say that I was a long time Badger Ponder, and this is my first post on sawmill creek. greetings to all

Joseph Marples is apparently not the same company as the one making the blue handled chisels, et. al. Its a smaller operation that makes among other things, some nice looking tools in a line they call "trial 1". I am wondering in particular about the mortise gauge. (see this site http://www.marples.co.uk/page12.html).

Anyone familiar with this line: is it worth pursuing? I have yet to find a source in the US/is it worth having it shipped from UK?

Again, glad to have found a new place to hang out.

Regards

I believe the Japan Woodworker carries this line in the US. I can't really say much about the quality, I don't own any.

Tools For Working Wood (http://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/Merchant/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=toolshop&Product_Code=MS-COMBG.XX&Category_Code=CJM) carry the Trial 1 mortice marking gauge.

Larry is correct in saying that Japan Woodworker (http://www.japanwoodworker.com/product.asp?s=JapanWoodworker&pf_id=88.614.0&dept_id=13009) also carry them.

I have 1 that I purchased from Axminster in the UK a few years ago. The quality is OK. I've compared it to other modern versions of wooden marking gauge and the quality is better than many on offer. My Titemark gauge is better though.

I haven't compared the Trial 1 to vintage wooden gauges in terms of quality because I don't have access to any vintage gauges.
