Finally finished the jewelry chest for the daughter for Christmas. Under the gun, as it was promised last year and Santa defaulted. http://www.woodworkforums.com/images/smilies/standard/redface.gif

The chest is approx. 40" tall, 20" wide, and 16" deep. Material is red oak for the top, base, drawer fronts, wing sides, and edge banding. Oak-veneered ply for the carcase. Joinery was primarily loose-tenon with a few plugged pocket screws in out-of-the-way places. Drawer sides are 1/2" poplar, the draw dividers are 1/4 " poplar.

Finished with a base coat of pigmented Danish Oil (Watco), a seal coat of de-waxed shellac, and seven coats of wiping varnish (Water-Lox).

Thanks for looking.

Great job. She will love it. Only a year late. Some of my projects have been later than that.

I like the design and craftsmanship ! but I would prefere a different kind of wood for this project!

So would I. But I didn't get to decide. :p ("And I want it reddish-looking and shiny!")

Adjustable ball catches. In fact, these:

Incredible! I hear ya on those schedules. Just curious, how long did it take you to build it.

Thanks. It has been my "main" project since Labor Day, but only got into high gear around October, when SWMBO started giving me The Look. :D

I'm no Mark Singer, so the usual number of stuff ups; had to rebuild one wing from scratch.

Learned a lot and scored a couple of tools that I HAD to have for the project. Funny how you can buy a tool with no problems if the project is for the daughter.;)

Great looking jewelry chest Bob!........about the only other thing I see that it may need is a small mirror on the underside of the top/lid....maybe trimmed out with some more of that rope molding!......

....I know your daughter gonna love it!

After looking real hard at that, the only problem I see is that you made it so big.
I can see numerous requests for Jewelry in your future.

My thought as well. But SWMBO, when I suggested it, said no. She has one in hers and she says she never uses it. I may do it anyway, as I have a couple of weeks yet.

Bob,
Nice attention to detail, I really like the work shown here. FYI I have to rebuild components occasionally ;)
