Hello All,

Does anyone know where I can purchase Serrated bread knife blades. I am in a bit of a dilema as my christmas gifts this year are turned bread knifes and matching cutting boards. (Woodturning design version from a few years back) I have 6 sets made up and the only source I can find for the blades are CSUSA and they are currently out of stock. I sent them an email inquiring about when they thought they would have them back in stock and they had no idea. I have spent a lot of time preparing these knife blanks and boards so I dont want to start over at this point with another gift idea so PLEASE help if you can.

Blade Spec: 3/8" wide 10 1/2" long with two scres holes on either end.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply, unfortunatly as stated in the original message CSUSA / AKA woodturners catalog does not have them in stock. That is where I purchased the original test kit before I made up the other blanks.

Any other suggestions........

Can you find any bread knifes locally that you can remove the handles from and replace with your own? Discount stores or chef supply type places come to mind.

have you tried to go to your local Woodcraft? It has been my experience that the stores often have items that are not in the catalog or website.

It may seem silly, Tom, but have you considered making your own knives? It strikes me that a steak knife could be fairly easily ground from thin tool steel stock.

You might consider contacting the folks at CSUSA / AKA woodturners as they may be able to direct you to another source.

I was going to direct you to Joe Herrmanns website but it seems to be down. Contact Joe at editors@woodturningdesign.com and see if he can help you as he is the one who makes the kits.

R & D Bandsaw in Canada carry a scallop or knife edge coil stock. This is similar to or the same edge as the one you are looking for. They at one time carried bread knife blades made from this stock. You can buy this coil stock and make your own or call them and see if they still carry the knife blades ( they are very easy to talk to and quite helpful). Check under coil stock for Scallop/Knife edge.

I have no affiliation with this company, just a satisfied customer.

Here is one link to a blade supplier, it looks like the one at CSA

It also appeared in a Wood magazine plan.
Hope this helps.

I know this is an old post...but anyone know of any other sources that might have blades a little cheaper? I'm looking to make quite a few for many family members and friends and not sure I want to spend $100's on blades. Then again, I suppose it could be the ole you get what you pay for?

Plus...craft supplies has them out of stock...again it seems.

Jeff, You might check out this place.
http://www.knifemaking.com/ I saw them listed in one of the woodworking related magazines and noticed they are close to me, but I have never made a trip to look at their wares so I don't know much about their prices or quality.

When I bought my last supply, I googled replacement blades for power bread slicer for the bakery industry. I got them for less than $1 apiece. Dennis Y
