Just engraved my first "i" anythings with some trepidation.

Good result and customer was happy. Used anodized aluminum settings. charged $15 each for 8. Less than 1 minute engraving time.

Mike - no cermark or chemicals of anytype - just etching? Look great... Did you use grey scale or did you run it through photograv first?

Take care...

Due to the customer's logo I ran it as a gray scale/halftone. It would have looked better without the circle but a logo is a logo. Even so it would have been better to gray scale the circle and fill the text with black. But the customer was looking over my shoulder--oops I forgot to charge for that.

I thought about trying my new laptop. Anyone done any of these?

Me too. There are a lot of examples on the web but I don't know the various materials. Mine's got Vista which translates to -- why not, you have nothing to lose.

For laptops with trepidation, pull the battery first and test on the inside of the battery case, it is usually the same material as the case, and it wont show if you mess up.

Is there some reason nearly all the engraved laptops I see are apple machines (macbook, powerbook) is it what the case is made of or is a owner thing.

the standard shop rate sign works for that..
Shop Rate = $60.00 hr..
If you watch = $65.00 hr..
If you help = $75.00 hr..
:D

I actually had one guy a couple of years ago who I advised to take his business elsewhere because he wanted to stand there and direct the engraving.

I did my Dell laptop. It's got the plastic housing.

Doesn't look as good as a metal housing.

I've done lots of cellphones. They turned out great. Coated aluminum is the best eye catcher.

I also have a few of the Dell (Black) laptops. What were your settings and what kind of graphics did you use?

Sorry so late on the reply....

I used 100 speed and 30 power.

It was a bitmap graphic of a scorpion with fonts in corel.

This is my laptop.
HP - plastic case with silver paint from the factory.
Found the image on the web as an Autocadd drawing and converted and removed duplicate lines.

Very nice.

I'm about to try some custom work on Gamer PCs.

They have an acrylic window on the side and lights inside the tower.

Should be fun.
