That may work for how many board feet you need but not the sizes of boards you need to make those cuts that the lumberyard has.

When figuring a project I may have 4 legs 2x2x30= x bd ft etc and then just add the small numbers at end.

Keep in mind that you do not order wood in board feet, you pay for wood in board feet.
