This is a 10 x 2 Chilean Mesquite Natural edge piece. The finish is Watco danish oil that was buffed. I lost part of the bark so I burnt/textured the rim.

That is really nice love the inside grain especially. Maybe this is just me, and I know we need to have a variety of finishes... but I would like to see more gloss on this one.

very nice peice Mike!

John For peices like that I love the buffed oil as it looks warm and inviting and people feel the have to pick it up and touch it. A high gloss finish just isn't the same.

I like it!

The grain inside the bowl looks like a Lorenz attractor:eek:.
(might explain all this vortex stuff)

I like the i-lost-the-bark save. Looks good. You say it is burnt and textured, is that all done with the burner?

Thanks.

Wow! Nice form and figure! The rim of that bowl has rather a high niftiness factor in my book.

Beautiful piece! I like the form. My first thought when I saw it was ......wobble.....wobble.....wobble...Very distinct and beautiful!

Wow, those Chileans know how to make some nice Mesquite, That's a beauty and I love the 'tractor seat' shape of the natural edged crotch wood.

Beautiful work Mike! That first photo sure is a grabber! Love the flowing rim! Great looking wood grain and color! I agree with your finish - makes the piece warm and inviting - just begging to be touched! Very nice work!

Wow, I really like that one. You know I'll bust your chops on a critique but really I can't pick out anything that I don't like. You really nailed this one.

Very nice NE!

I have a question for you all, how do you hold a natural edge to remove the tenon?

Real nice. I, too, saw the tractor seat. Made me want to sit down. If it was too shiny, you'd slide right off.

Now that is a nice piece! Really like that soft luster. Looks a bit like walnut with MUCH less sapwood. The curving/wobbling edge is a real eye pleaser.

Dale I use a vacuum chuck but it is not requires. If I did not have the vacuum chuck I would just mount a face plate on my lathe and put a foam pad betwean the face plate on the inside of the bowl. Bring up the tail stock and friction would drive the bowl.

Yes the texture is done with the burner, I think I just used the ball tipped burning pen for this one.

Now THAT is one beautiful NE piece! There's a lot going on there and you captured it beautifully. Great feathering in the crotch.

I love the contrast of the sapwood and burned rim, too. Good choice for a rim treatment.
