I don't name things very often, but this just looked like the blazing summer sun, starting with the 80 grit sanding (almost dry, this stuff was REALLY hard).
(I don't say this very often either) The pictures do not do this piece justice. Try as I might, I couldn't capture the blistering corona that radiates from the crotch figure in this black locust vase form.
Even the back view shows some nice grain (IMHO)
Height: 6 1/4 inches
Diameter: 4 inches
Oil sanded and finished with water based poly, buffed to a high luster

I agree, I can't really see it in the pictures. Best send it on to my house so I can get the full effect!

Very, very nice George. Love the form and rim!

Absolutely beautiful vase George! Fabulous wood grain and color! Wish I could do your finish... looks like you dipped it in glass! Extremely nice work!!

Thanks Steve, I don't normally like to use the poly finish on one wood pieces, the closer to natural the better (to me), but this one just screamed for a gloss finish. Not that hard to do, only took about 8 coats, because of the open grain wood, otherwise it would have been 3 or 4.
And Mike:
Good Luck! My wife has already put this one on the shelf...
If I behave, she'll let me take it to my next meeting, but other than that, it ain't goin' anywhere for a while.
