I've been lurking here for a week or so and thought I would introduce myself and jump into the fray. Great forum, great group of people. My interest in WW started 20+ years ago watching Norm on TOH and then NYW and needing to build a door into my crawlspace. Built a F&P from dimensional oak and plywood using a drill and chisel. I was hooked.

Along the way have changed to more a big iron guy, but WW has always appealed more to my engineering and match interests, so that figures. Now I mostly build Shaker and A&C style furniture. Here is some of my early work, modified from a Woodcraft Plan:

Here is a cherry desk I made from a NYW plan, modified from Norm's plan. Little bigger, I added more functional "cubbies" like an upright file space, and used through dovetails instead of Norm's routed halfblind.

Just finish a bunch of A&C stuff for my lake home, the favorite and just needing finishing is the Morris Chair. Used lock miter joints on the legs to get four QS faces (you can my my second project, that red shelf!)

Will soon be starting to design my first "real" woodshop in my empty three car garage "up nort'" and have already found this forum a valuable tool in design tips and equipment information. Expect questions on this moving forward, and although just an amateur I'll add my two cents in when appropriate.

welcome george. it looks like you're already off to a great start even without a REAL workshop! I had a real woodshop, just not mine. I got started with a Ryobi BT-whatever and jointer/router in the garage and made simple stuff, but then the Woodcraft in Madison, WI opened their shop on a membership basis...that ended in about 60 days but I got to know a guy who works there and he has let me use his shop ever since. I actually became his best man.

Nice work! Thanks. Most of my furniture I've built and am proud of all of it. One of the keys is that having very limited shop time forces me to read and study to enjoy this hobby, that helps in understanding and with modern WW machines it's not that great a leap. Having my own shop finally is going to be great...I just picked up a Unisaw and 8" Delta jointer in excellent condition for $1,800.

My sister wants me to teach her woodworking her but is afraid of TS's so she said she would buy me Saw Stop unit. :D

Here is a kitchen cabinet door/drawer redo I did. Simple frame and rail joinery. Not crazy about PS red oak but that's what the face frames were and it's okay for a cottage
