At the end of a long and trying day at work I flipped to CL for a quick look at the Tool section before I shut the computer down. I've been looking for a cabinet saw for some time and there have been quite a few in the last year locally but something was always just not right about the deal...money short, too light HP on a cabinet saw, usually they sold just too quickly, etc. Today, I saw a Powermatic 5hp 10" saw advertised. $750  Posted at ~10:30 this morning and I read it at 16:00. I figured it was long gone but thought I'd call as there was the number right in the ad. Nope, not sold yet; had a few calls and there were several that wanted to come by later to look at the saw. He said he hadn't used it much in the last 10 years but had run it 6 months ago, just tired of moving it all over the country and he didn't do any wood work anymore. It wasn't that far out of my way home so I left immediately to look at the saw.
Sure enough, a PM66 ~1985 vintage, 5hp, Bies fence, ~73" rail and full extensions for 52" right of the blade. It's not without a few flaws...missing miter gauge (not a problem for me), missing insert for the blade, missing cabinet shroud over the motor, missing front door, surface rust but no deep pitting on the table. All the controls work smoothly through full range. Everything under the table appears to be in very good condition other than some cobwebs. Also included was a substantial outfeed table. Welded 2" steel framework with very solid tabletop ~50" X 80".
:D I'm stoked!! I really needed a project for the next month, now I've got it.

I know it's not official without pics; I'll post them as soon as I can.

That's a fantastic saw. My PM66 will be 10 years old on Dec 27th, 2007. I bought it new after much debate myself. I expect to use it for another 30 years before I hand it over to my son. That is, if he is worthy!

Good for you Fred.

I sniped a PM66 down you way early last summer. It was the best tool purchase I think I've made. You are going to love that saw. 5hp to boot. You came out real good.

As for a miter gauge, the Incra v27 is reasonably priced.

IIRC there is a motor cover listed on the big online auction site.

Congrats.

If you're looking for a Miter gage, I recommend the Incra 1000se.
