This is my first post of a turning photo. I made this platter last Spring. It is maple burl with some burning. Hope you enjoy.

Wow Brian - that is some amazing work! Beautiful wood, great form and the burned detail actually enhances the burl! Very nice work! You need to post some more of your turnings!

That is some kind of beautiful wood Brian, and I like what you did to it. How large is it, and what kind of finish did you use?

I guess I could have included a ruler in a photo. The platter is 11 inches across and 1 1/2 inches high. I used walnut oil for a finish, probably 3 "drenchings."

Nice job on that. The burning does enhance the burl. I think I would have been pretty nervous as I reached the rim while turning that!

after over fifty years of turning, I still get surprised, amazed. floored if you will at the impressive varity, and beauty of wood, and the even more impressive things that are created by man, and the enhancement that they bring to the wood. Attaboys for sure:D

Oh, man, Brian, that is a lovely piece of work. I agree with the others who have said that the edge detailing enhances the burl.
