I recently finished a dvd cabinet and bookcase.

The doors of the dvd cabinet are Walnut and oak (with a nice curl) with Turqoiuse inlay in the pith and a knot-hole in the walnut.

The rest of the cabinet is solid walnut (except the plywood back)

The bookcase is solid walnut with turquoise inlay on the top piece of wood, which i was lucky enough to find the perfect piece for - 12 inches wide to boot!

it's a housed dado cut at an angle, strengthened with screws. here's a better pic.

Julie, those look great. The turqoiuse inlay is a unique idea that is outstanding. That's something I would never have thought of.

turquoise isn't just for the turners! I like the way it looks with walnut.

Nice work! The inlay and the contrasting mixture of woods show you've a boldness in design and aren't constrained in your creativity ;) I usually don't like such clean lines, but that DVD case is really super, and I would love having it in a room. What did you use for a finish?

thanks dave! that's nice to hear.

i used a mix of BLO, poly and paint thinner. wipe on, rub off. it works great with the walnut, but with the oak you have to wipe about every 15 minutes as the oil bleeds out.. kind of a pain, but i didn't want to use something else.

Julie,
I like your design and choice of wood- that came out very ,very, nice. I like the slanted side shelfing - neat idea and nice craftsmanship! :)

Nice work. Love the shelves.

I'm kinda curious about that pole, though. If it were polished brass . . .
