View Full Version : Rebuilding 14.4 volt Dewalt battery?

The original battery that came with my 14.4 volt Dewalt drill won’t hold a charge anymore. The drill is over 10 years old so I can’t complain. Rather than spend $60+ for a new one I was wondering what everyone thinks of getting it rebuilt.

If I do get it rebuilt, can I just go to a Battery Plus or should I find somewhere that specializes in cordless tool batteries?

Thanks,
Wes Billups

I just had 2-14.4v. DeWalt batteries rebuild recently and am happy with them. I had the "heavy duty" Nicad cells put in.

I just called a Batteries Plus and it is $63 to rebuild this battery. I can get a new one for that. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Wes

I've had a few batteries rebuilt at www.primecell.com (http://www.primecell.com) and have been happy with them. $38 for a 14.4 nicad is the going rate right now.

Tim

I need mine (14.4) done too. How do we find out what Jason charges?

Bill, Jason's website is http://www.mtobattery.com/STORE/

He rebuilt mine nearly a year ago and it's amazing how long they go between recharges. I highly recommend him.

I just got around to sending out my dead battery last week to Jason Abel. Shipped it out on Monday and received it back on Friday. Everything works as original so I'm happy, total cost including shipping both ways was $49. It's not cheap but I'll definetly use them again as I'm sure my second battery is near it's last charge.

I had Jason do mine as well. I didn't go for the ultimate rebuild but I did go up a level from what they were. They're great.

I bought the "do it yourself" kit from Jason for my 14.4v Dewalt last year. The end result has been great...like a new tool again!

Wes - I got a whole pile of Dewalt 18V collecting dust in my shop. A couple of days ago a talked to a trimmer that takes his into Batteries Plus and he swears that when he gets them back they are much better than original. (I'm going to try them out.)
