This project was a few weeks in the making. The following two pictures are of room before the renovation.

The next few pictures are the renovated laundry room. This is my first attempt at using melamine. Melamine has it benefits but I still prefer using birch ply for cabinetry. The built in pantry has 3/4" in melamine for the carcase and drawers. The face frame and doors are hard maple. The top cabinets are made of 3/4" birch ply with hard maple face frames and doors. All the door knobs are cherry from LV. I did not change the sink cabinet but the doors are hard maple. The table is 1 1/2" laminated ply with an arborite top, hard maple skirting and legs. Everything was finished with Minwax poly. Some of the doors are hand finished and some were sprayed with a turbine. I also moved the plumbing around, electrical, painted, replaced the trim and put ceramic tiles in.

rick, VERY NICE job on the remodel. i see that you've also managed to use all the latest hardware on the inset frameless cabinets. how did you ENJOY putting in those rollouts? they're a constant source of vexation with me because of the hinges getting in the way! nice work on the flipper door. did you edgeband with solid wood? how did you buid the doors?

I enjoyed this, thanks for taking such a series of pics--at the first one, I was saying "I HOPE he took some shots to show..." and as I scrolled down, you did ;) Nice job! This is exactly the type of thread I can call the wife in to show her, to keep her "tool purchase/ garage shop space/SMC reading time" enthusiasm factor up!

Thanks for the feedback

Frank, all the hardware was purchased from Lee Valley. It is hard to tell from the photos but the slides for the melamine drawers in the pantry are mounted to some melamine spacers. I have to build out the left inner wall so the slides would clear the door. I used two 3/4" strips of melamine to build it out. The self closing slides are a nice feature and I prefer the clipped hinges so I can easily take the doors off. All the doors are solid maple. I routed a 1/4"x1/4" dado along the inner rails and stiles. Than using the table saw I made a 1/4"x1/4" tenon on the end of the stile The center panels is made to fit inside the dados...this is similar to a raised panel door. I realized after the fact my design flaw. I wanted the stiles of the doors to be the full height..but this is not the case.

This is a similar construction

LOL, the first two photos are prior to moving in. The washer and dryer were purchased in our previous home. When I renovate the kitchen that will come with new appliances.

rick, consider using ZERO PROTRUSION hinges from blum next time you do rollouts. you still have to keep in mind the placement of the hinge so that the drawers doesn't run into them but you don't have to shim out the drawers. personally, i hate rollouts except on pantry or laundry units like the one you've just built. how did you cut the melamine so that it didn't chip? i'm using a modulus 2000 but i'm curious about your method. i LOVE melamine because it's prefinished, extremely durable and cheap.

Frank, I was looking for zero protrusion blum hinges but I do not believe you can get them for inset doors. Some of my cuts were with a freud blade on a Makita circular saw using the EZ smart system. The freud blade did an OK job. The drawer panels I cut on my table saw using a Dimar melamine blade. The Dimar blade worked great. I was hoping to pick up a FS Tool melamine blade but they are closed on the weekend and the Dimar was available. Apparently the FS Tool blades are exceptional.

rick, the FS tool blade combined with a ZCI does cut chip-free for a short while before chipping on one side. i sold it after acquiring the modulus which has taken over permanent residency in my PM64.

Very nice. I really like the cabinet doors.
