Wax or No Wax?

Just completing a small half-round table of walnut. I have finished sanding (down to 220 then very fine sanding sponge) Behlen Pore-n-Pac grain filler. I am going to put Watco Med Walnut oil on. On the test piece I rubbed out the oil and it looked very nice with a nice sheen. I added paste wax over and could see no noticeable difference (if anything - a tad less sheen). Is there an advantage I'm overlooking if I don't wax?

The wax will provide a bit more 'protection', but probably not much. I use WATCO Satin Wax applied with steel wool to get a little bit of sheen, but mostly for the 'feel'. It doesn't feel 'waxy' after it's buffed...it's silky smooth.

Give it several coats of wax and let it dry throughly before wax.
