The wife requested that I make a Potpouri bowl so our sister in law for Christmas. I have been meaning to try some hollow forms so I made her a Potpouri bowl that looks like a holow form.

The wood is Indian Rosewood.

Personally if looking at it as a hollow form I would like a smaller base, but since it is meant to be used I left it a little wider.

Comment and critiques are always appreciated. As usual I apoligize for the poor picture.

Beautiful Mike. I do like the form. Well done. I just bought some potpouri tops to do some as my wife wanted a couple for the house and a couple for gifts.

Beautiful wood Mike! I am sure it will be treasured as a gift! Curious as to what the dimensions are and what you used for a finish?

great piece of work. my expierince with E.I. Rosewood has been that it is a little more open grained than I like and requires extra care in finising. you did a fine job there too.

That rosewood has such a soft warm look. Love the shape and I must NOT show it to the wife. She loves that style. I'm curious to as to what the dimensions are. And what tools did you use if I may ask. I'm always curious to what tool individual turners use mainly on anything that is close to being considered a HF.

Not a lot to critique really. You know I am pretty honest about critiques and the only thing about it is it looks a little heavy but by design it needs to be. I really like the little collar, I wonder, could it have been a contrasting wood. Probably not with the potpourri lid, might have been busy then.
Now about the pic... ;)

Thanks everyone.

Sorry I didn't put size on it. It is about 6.25 wide by 4.75 high. Finish is Watco danish oil, buffed.

As for the tools I have a Jameison D handle and a homemade backrest. I made a homemade straight 3/4 inch boring bar and have a 3/4 swan neck boring bar from monster tools. Basically I made everything I could in my shop and bought what ever I could not make.

Good one Mike! I had no idea it was that large.

Nice piece, Mike! Beautiful wood. I'll bet LOYL loves it.

Looks like the foot width is equal to the rim. IMHO that's about what you want for the function of this piece.

I like it too Mike, and I agree for the purpose you intended it is just right.

Very nice Mike. I like the way the grain lays in on the piece. Do you have any other views of it?
