The first wood purchace I made when I started this insanity was a bunch of basswood, I finally decided to do something with it now that it doesn't quite stink so much...:D

Anyway, going to make a kinda A frame rack to hold about 20 fishing poles and I'm wonder what to coat this stuff with??

This stuff doesn't sem to have a grain to speak of so I guess I just need something to protect it...or??

Al,

I had a basswood tree sawn up about 11 years ago. It's about the softest wood I've worked with except for balsa.

Stink! You're not kidding. I think I'm alergic to it too! I ended up using it for painted trim and garage shelves. Wasn't good for much else to me seeing as I'm not a carver.

I think it looks great painted! :)

Takes paint well, but shellac would also do a good job in sealing in any odors.

Haven't tried shellac yet, sounds like a good time to try..:)
Woods so soft I wasn't sure what to use on it.

Wondered why it was so cheap..:D
