I'm just posting this in case someone had the same question as I about a potential SawStop hybrid. Kudos on their customer service. I sent the inquiry over the weekend and got a reply today.

I'm very interested in your product although I find the price somewhat
daunting.

I was looking forward to a hybrid version of the saw coming out, but
it seems you decided to make a contractor's style saw instead. I find
this baffling.

The contractor style is so antiquated and unnecessary. Real
contractors use portable saws. Hobbyists would, I think, prefer a
hybrid. Contractor saws take up more space, are harder to dust collect
on, and have issues with tipping over. I can understand why Delta or
Jet would make them since they already have all the tooling set up,
but it makes no sense to me for a new company to ever go that route.
I'm hoping you can shed some light on this for me.
In the mean time, I'll save my sheckels.

Regards,

Matt

The reply:

Hi Matt,
Thanks for your feedback and please know that we do want to do a hybrid
as well, but the contractor saw has been in the works for quite some
time so it will be the next product released. Thanks!

You might want to read Steve Gass' posts over at Woodnet in a thread titled Saw Stop Big Idea. He alludes to the hybrid being in the offing but doesn't say when.

I'm sure he's aware that the general public would rather have the hybrid. Who knows, maybe the contractor has been held back until they could tool up and produce the hybrid and release both at the same time.
