Finishing

Do you apply your finish when the piece is on the lathe or after it has been removed? I typically use Danish or Antique oil and I typically apply it off the lathe. If you apply it on the lathe, how do you finish the bottom so that it matches the rest of the bowl or project?

Tom if I am applying anything but friction polish I do it off the lathe.

Me too. I'll apply oils or shellac for expediancy sake, turning by hand....but for the actual finish...it's off the lathe

With Bernie on this one! After the project is totally turned and sanded - it is removed and then the finish is applied.
