I am at the tail end of finishing a table for a customer. She is very particular about the color for the legs. She has yet to find the right shade of gold that she likes. However, she has some metallic glazing that she got from HD or Lowe's that she likes. The legs are going to be distressed so a completely uniform coating isn't entirely necessary. Can I use this glazing as a topcoat over a primer? What problems would I run into with this?

I'd check the manufacturer's technical data sheets for how they recommend treating their product, or at least check out the can labels. I'd tend to think a more durable top coat would be called for, but that could change the look considerably.

I planned on covering the glazing with a sprayed on clear lacquer. Durability shouldn't be an issue after that. I guess I'm wondering about it's ability to cover.

I don't know anyway to really find out except to try it. I think these metallic glazes do pretty much cover, at least with a couple of coats. Can't say I envy you using materials from the borg, but....

I'm going to a couple of paint stores to see if I can get the color of the glaze matched in a more traditional paint. However, since it's one the metallic finishes I don't know if that will be a problem. I imagine I'll just have to buy another pint of this stuff and throw a couple of coats on.
