This little HF is 4"s x 2-3/4". Made from Australian red gum burl. The finish is hi-gloss lacquer. It is hard to get rid of photo reflections with this finish.

Comments, questions, critiques welcome.

Thanks,

Andy

Andy - very nice work! I like the overall form on this and the proportions of foot vs collar. Beautiful wood, great color combination and I like the high gloss finish. Again, very nice work!

IMHO, a classic beauty of form and finish. Wish I had that kind of skill.

Thanks for the kind and gracious comments Gentlemen.

I love to turn small items because you can use some exotic woods without spending a fortune. I keep learning new techniques and skills but there is always a new one to pursue. Learning is a life long persuit for me and I keep getting all kinds of inspiration from the pictures and post that I read on this forum.

Again, thanks.

What John said. That's a real beautiful piece. How was the wood to turn? I have 2 large pieces of RG that are due for destruction soon.:)

Andy I have nothing more to add to the comments about this beautiful piece, but to say I think it is outstanding.

Bill - This was not the easiest piece to turn as it was dry (really dry) and had the bark inclusions in it. I had to be careful when hollowing it that it didn't shatter. I have never turned American red gum but have turned black gum. It was a pleasure to rough turn green and not at all difficult to finish turn when dry. Hope this helps.
